Sculpture Classes Online & In-Person

Want to learn to sculpt the human figure? There’s a path for you here, whether you’re picking up clay for the first time or sharpening years of practice.

You have two options. Join an intensive, hands-on workshop in the studio. Or take a self-paced online course from anywhere in the world.

Both paths teach the same core skills: structure, gesture, proportion, and anatomy. Both are taught by a sculptor with nearly 30 years of experience, including five years at Weta Workshop. So the real choice comes down to one thing: how you learn best, and how much time you have.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need experience to do your workshops?
Not necessarily. The more experience you bring, the more you’ll get out of it Both the in-person workshops and the online course are built to work for complete beginners as well as more experienced sculptors
How do I learn to sculpt if I’ve never done it before?
The best way is hands-on practice with real guidance — working from models, learning structure, gesture, proportion, and anatomy step by step, rather than trying to figure it out alone. That’s exactly what both the workshops and the online course are built around.
Can I learn sculpture online, or do I need to be in person?
Both work well, just differently. Online, you’ll learn through video lessons, personal feedback, and a private group over 10 weeks, at your own pace. In-person, you get the intensity of working from a live model in the studio, with real-time feedback over a few focused days. Neither is “better” — it depends how you learn best. Although Online is great to learn the concepts time constrains.
What materials do I need for a sculpture class?
For in-person workshops, everything is supplied at the studio. For the online course, you’ll need to set up your own space and materials — but you won’t be guessing, since a full setup guide walks you through exactly what to get before you start.
How do I become a professional sculptor?
It starts the same way any craft does — real technique, real practice, and time. Many students begin with a single workshop or the online course purely out of curiosity, and go on to build it into a serious practice. There’s no single path, but a strong foundation in structure and anatomy is where it begins.
Where are the in-person sculpture classes held?
Workshops run a few times a year in Wellington and Auckland (New Zealand) and Sydney (Australia). If you’re not near any of these, the online course lets you learn from anywhere.
