Student David Carman work, during a head portrait workshop 2018.
Many people coming to the workshops struggle to do proportionate work tending to make parts of the face too big or too small. Without using a model, we will learn how to get results by following simple steps. The tools you are learning will help you to do proportionate work.
We use water based clay to sculpt the head, face and neck over an armature to learn the fundamental understanding of basic simplified anatomy, proportions and features to recreate a human head.
Understanding a standard human head constitution and proportions makes it possible to build a strong base, a step-by-step methodology as foundational guidance to catch the subtleties of a portrait next.
